Spares management

Critical spares review

The parts that protect production, checked and in place.

The worst time to find a critical spare is missing is during the breakdown. Many sites have never formally identified which spares are critical, so gaps only show up when a C1 asset is down and the part is weeks away. We help operators identify the spares that protect their most critical assets and confirm they are held, in good condition and correctly recorded. Long outages waiting for parts stop happening.

How we
do it.

Start from criticality and failure modes

We take the C1 and C2 assets and their failure modes, and work out which parts each failure would need. Candidate parts come from O&M manuals and BOMs, and engineers confirm them.

Check the shelf, not just the system

CMMS stock records are often wrong. We check that critical spares physically exist, are in the right condition and are stored correctly. Rotating equipment stored without preservation can fail on installation.

Close the gaps

Every missing or doubtful critical spare gets a recommendation: buy, refurbish, share with a nearby site or accept the risk with a documented reason.

What you get.

  • Critical spares list linked to assets and failure modes
  • Gap analysis: missing, under-held, poor condition
  • Storage and preservation recommendations
  • Prioritised purchase list with costs and lead times

Common
questions.

What makes a spare critical?

A spare is critical when the asset it serves is critical and the part's lead time is longer than you can tolerate the asset being down.

How often should critical spares be reviewed?

After any criticality change, and on a regular cycle.
